Meet The Bus
Young people are capable of extraordinary things when living lives of passion and purpose. The Dream Bus – and its creator, Lena Jacobs – are proof of exactly that.
It all began as a vision in Lena's head. Then a high school senior in NYC, Lena was inspired by the work of The Future Project in her school and wanted to find a way to share the power of her Dream Director with young people far beyond New York City. The answer, she realized, was to build a bright blue bus, fill it with Dream Directors, and send it off to collect the dreams of young people across the country.
Despite a complete lack of construction experience, at the end of last summer, Lena began building a team of young people to realize her vision. With her leadership and the help of Middlebury College and Cornwall Elementary School, they found a bus, completely gutted it, and reimagined it from the inside out. 15 years of grime became sparkling cedar floorboards. Rows of bolted bench seats gave way to a mobile classroom for the 21st century. And of course, a once yellow bus turned bright blue. The Dream Bus was born.
As the bus makes its way across the country, Lena and her team are inviting students aboard to experience the thrill of a dream in action.
